A little history of the owner and the Studio
Deb Thies, Owner
Deb grew up stitching, crocheting, knitting, and sewing on her mom’s Featherweight and then moved on to cross stitch when she had little ones of her own running around. Well, when the little ones were big and gone, Deb took up quilting – in a big way! She was a rather reluctant participant in that initial Quilt Sampler class but quickly became the over-achiever. One block a week was not enough for her. She was hooked (and wants to learn that too!) Spending time with girlfriends was top priority and doing what all loved – quilting, eating, and just being together. Retreating was introduced and Deb became a frequent attendee, then a hostess in her own home, and then decided her dream of being a business owner needed to happen – turning 50 was the impetus for that – it was now or never! The idea was presented to Mr. Thies and he saw the potential. Moonlight Stitching Studio & Sisters Retreat was born.
Located in the heart of downtown West Union, across from the Fayette County Courthouse Square, the Studio is nestled right in the center of this pedestrian friendly town. The building itself was built in 1890 and added onto in 1930. It once housed a pharmacy, clothing store and most recently a hardware store with two apartments above. The main floor has been renovated into a retail area, a private room with a 14 ft commercial Nolting machine, a dining area for 24, and a full kitchen. It also houses a great studio area for 24 to sit in ergonomic chairs at sturdy 8 foot tables under T8 lighting attached to 13 ft tin ceilings. There are 3 design walls to place your projects, and several pressing and cutting stations. The atmosphere is perfect for you to get your creativity flowing and complete those projects! The upper floor has five sleeping rooms for 20 to sleep comfortably, one full bath and two 3/4 baths. We are very proud of the work we have done to update this lovely old building into a wonderful place for creativity and community and hope you love the cozy, rustic atmosphere at much as we do. Stop by and see us!
